General
practice
My professional qualifications and especially the fifteen years spent working in public practice for both medium size (top 50) and small practices have provided me with a solid knowledge of general practice relating to small businesses turning over up to £10 million. Naturally, I have considerable experience of preparing accounts and undertaking audits across a variety of business sectors. In the latter years of my career, I have managed my own portfolio of small businesses, being the first point of contact with these businesses and dealing with the day to day running of their affairs unsupervised. I also have had responsibility for supervising, managing and training team members that assisted me. In addition to having prepared literally hundreds of self assessment tax returns and corporation tax returns in the course of my career, I have also dealt with a number of self assessment, corporation tax and VAT investigations including meeting the inspectors concerned and negotiating settlement. I have considerable knowledge of IR35 and have successfully argued a disputed case with the Inland Revenue in my client's favour. I have extensive experience of using Sage Line 50 and have worked with a number of clients and their bookkeeprs to improve their accounting records, particularly where they have got into difficulties in the past. Information technology
Having built and maintained Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and peer-to-peer networks for both practitioners and their clients, I feel that I developed exceptional information technology skills. These skills include:-
I also have specific knowledge and experience of training in the following software packages:-
Furthermore, I have also attended the "Web Trust Accreditation" and "Skills Used in Web Trust Assignments" courses. Approved sites are entitled to display the Web Trust seal. Business development
I have attended the "Accountants' Boot Camp" and "Business Development Workshop" courses run by Results Accountants' Systems. These courses provided me with a framework of knowledge to assist clients to plan, develop and systematise their businesses and ultimately make them more valuable. When working with clients on the nine-stage business development programme, my particular area of specialism was developing financial reporting systems to enable the success of the business to be gauged. I was also involved in ad hoc business development assignments such as finance manager recruitment for a number of clients. Marketing is an important aspect of the Boot Camp process. Consequently, after my attendance of the "Accountants' Boot Camp" course, I became heavily involved in the marketing of the practice. My work included producing a marketing plan, developing the practice web site and brochures, producing mail shots to existing and potential clients and developing new services to strengthen the relationship with existing clients. |
